Carnival in Collesano

  • The Collesano Carnival is a lively celebration that takes place in the village of Madonita in the province of Palermo. This folkloric event is known for the dancing evenings, music, dances in the square and the involvement of the whole community, from the smallest to the adults.
  • A central element of the Carnival is the “Peppe ‘Nnappa Competition”, active since 1983, which rewards the best handmade masks, in paper mache, cabaret and dance halls. The local tailors, often non-professional, They make clothes that reflect the tradition and creativity of the community.
  • During the Carnival, masked groups perform in the town’s ballrooms, offering performances that combine irony and attention to detail. The festival also includes events such as contradanza, gastronomic corners, music and satirical sketches. Sunday is dedicated to children, with parties and masked balls, while Monday comes alive with the “Carnival Party”, characterized by DJ sets. The highlight of the festival is Shrove Tuesday with the awarding of prizes in the Peppe ‘Nnappa competition, which awards cash prizes to the winners.
